  • System audio track not found
    System audio is supported with some limitations depending on your operating system: Microsoft Windows and Chromebook support Entire screen or Chrome tab. Mac OSX and Linux only support Chrome tab. Recording from a specific application is not supported by any operating system. These limitations are imposed by Chrome and there is nothing we - or other Chrome extensions - can do about it.Popular
  • How can I enable camera and microphone permission?
    When you start a recording with camera or microphone for the first time the extension will ask you for permissions.   • How to play screen recordings?
    Videos you save from the Screen Recorder - Scre.io are in WebM format. A WebM Video file is supported and opened by most web browsers. If you get a black screen it means that the player does not support this format. We recommend to play the videos in the browser with Scre or with VLC Media Player.   • How to record seekable videos?
    You can use the Optimize video feature to make videos seekable. This will allow you to navigate through the video and skip parts of it. You can click on the Optimize button after you recorded a video. This button is also available on the Latest Videos and Video Player pages, so you can always optimize videos even if you recorded them with an older version of our Screen Recorder.   • When i try to play the video is just a black screen?
    This means you player does not support WebM format. Please use a different player like Chrome or VLC Media Player. Please follow instructions on how to play screen recordings?Few readers
  • Is there a recording time limit?
    The extension does not have any recording limit. We have recorded up to 4 hours and some users reported 6-8 hours recordings. Please note that especially on Windows the optimization process requires a lot of resources and may fail on long videos. Please refer to this article to find information on how to disable this option.Few readers
  • Where can I find my recordings?
    When you click on Save the video will be saved in your Downloads folder. You can access all your Chrome downloads from the chrome://downloads page by clicking the Chrome menu in the top right corner and then Downloads. If you still can't find the video you can try to restore it from the Latest Videos page.Few readers
  • Missing audio in saved video

  • My computer hangs / freezes when I stop a long recording "Not Responding"
    By default the extension will try to optimize the video and make it seekable. This process requires quite some memory and could freeze your computer when working with long videos. If you are experiencing this issue you can disable the "Optimize video" option in the settings. The recorded videos will now be available immediately after you stop recording.   • Supported video file formats
    Scre records webm video files which are supported by many video sharing platforms like YouTube or Vimeo. Chrome does not support recording to mp4 and that's the reason we can not output to this format. We are working to provide full support for mp4 format with a desktop application that will come later this year. Some extensions claim to record to mp4 but this is either poorly working (slowing down / crashing your computer) or they just replace the webm extension with mp4, but these vidFew readers
  • How can I skip / navigate parts of the video?
    Videos produced by Chrome are not seekable by default. To make them seekable we provide the Optimize video option. This requires quite some resources to process large videos and can therefore be disabled from the Settings page. In this case you can still optimize the video manually after the recording or by opening the Latest Videos page, selecting the video and clicking Optimize.Few readers
  • How to record System audio in MacOS? System audio track not found
    In MacOS recording System audio from "Your Entire Screen" or "Application Window" is not supported. This is a fundamental limitation of MacOS, for security reason the operating system doesn’t allow the browser to access the entire system audio. However you can always record the Audio from a Tab when choosing "Chrome Tab" instead.   • Can I share my video to YouTube?
    Yes, Scre creates a webm video which can be uploaded to YouTube. Please refer to YouTube's documentation about Supported YouTube file formats.Few readers
  • Is the screen recorder free?
    Most of the features are completely free and there is no need to sign up. All the old features will be free forever and we only plan to require a Premium account for a limited set of new features (ie: screen with camera recoding).
